FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HeyDenver Services

  • Our standard testing includes oral & rectal swabs (based on sexual practices) as well as urine testing for gonorrhea & chlamydia and rapid HIV blood tests. Hepatitis C and Syphilis blood testing are done on a case by case basis. We do not offer testing for Herpes, HPV, Trichomoniasis, or Mpox.

  • HeyDenver is a non-clinical site, so we do not offer treatment. If your chlamydia and gonorrhea tests come back positive our main clinic will offer you treatment. Syphilis and Hep C treatment are also available at our main clinic or various other clinical sites.

  • Some clinical testing sites will preemptively treat you if you have a known exposure to certain STIs, so you will get treatment much sooner than if you tested with us. Visit our Resources page for alternative testing sites.

  • It takes time for infection to develop in the body before they can reliably be picked up on tests, also known as a window period. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia have a two week window period. HIV and Syphilis have a 3 month window period with our tests. As such, it's recommended to get tested at least two weeks after a sexual encounter, and do follow up testing after 3 months.

HeyDenver Policies and GuidelineS

  • All of HeyDenver's services are free of charge. We are able to offer free services because we are grant based. While we welcome donations, you will not be charged for using our services.

  • HeyDenver's services are intended for the Queer community because of our grant funding requirements. HeyDenver acknowledges that Queer folks are more likely to be marginalized in health care settings. While anyone is allowed to test with us, our resources are limited so our website lists other free or low cost testing options that may better fit your needs.

  • HeyDenver is a non-clinical site, so there is no medical provider on site to assess and treat symptoms. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis tests are sent to our lab and results take 7-10 business days. As such, if you are experiencing symptoms we do not recommend testing with us- medical sites will get results faster. Visit our Resources page for alternative testing sites.

  • Wear a mask, drink water, do not urinate up to an hour prior to the appointment, and eat a snack (we don’t want you to faint when we draw your blood!), and make sure that your intake form is filled out!

  • Due to COVID we want to reduce in person contact, the online questionnaire is important to your visit and will help us determine what the best testing for you is. These questions are also required for us to continue to receive grant funding, which is what keeps our services cost-free.

  • HeyDenver is currently seeing clients by appointment only. We book 30-minute sessions for each client we see, if you are more than 5 minutes late we will need to rebook you at another time.

  • This is not a one size fits all answer. Some people should test every 3 months, some once a year. It all depends on what is happening in your sex life. That being said, HeyDenver can only test clients once every 3 months. If you need testing more often than that, we recommend looking at our resource section to find alternative testing locations.

  • HIV and Hep C blood test results are given during your session. Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and most Syphilis tests are sent to an outside lab which will call you if you are in need of treatment. You will receive these results by phone call within 7-10 business days of your visit. You can always call our results line directly at 303-962-2880.

  • Unfortunately we don not provide written results for our tests. Since we are a non-clinical setting our tests cannot be used as required proof. For this you can go to a clinical setting like our parent company Colorado Health Network.

  • Everything in our visit is confidential so we do not allow this for privacy reasons.
