How to be okay being a slut.

Ever been called a slut because you like to have sex, a lot, with different people? Or worse, have you ever felt like a slut and shameful about it? Or have you simply wondered what it would be like to be more promiscuous? If you answered yes, then join us for a conversation about what it means to live a life of sluttery while also maintaining your sense of self-worth and dignity.

This conversation is for those who engage in or are curious about living a promiscuous lifestyle free from shame and guilt. We will discuss how one can live an ethically balanced and happy life while also being what society calls "slutty." We will address issues of social stigma around hookups and one night stands, different ways of mitigating risk associated with promiscuity, and explore fun fantasies about what it's like to be a slut and reclaim the term as a positive affirmation of our enjoyment of sex rather then simply a pejorative label for promiscuous people. RSVP to this conversation HERE

Spiritual Connection Versus Spiritual Escape: What is “Spiritual Bypassing?”

  • Hooked on Colfax

The HeyDenver Conversation Series Presents: Spiritual Connection Versus Spiritual Escape: What is “Spiritual Bypassing?”

John Welwood, an integrative psychotherapist who specializes in Spirituality and Psychology, coined the term “Spiritual Bypassing” as a way to examine the ways in which people can use spiritual practices to avoid emotions and reality.

In the August HeyDenver Conversation Series, we will explore the concept of spiritual bypassing and discuss what it means for each of us to be authentically spiritually connected. This Conversation Series will be facilitated by Munirah Alam, LPC, CACII, counselor with the Denver Colorado AIDS Project, on August 18. Join us and RSVP if you plan to attend. Space is limited.  Please forward this email to others who may be interested in attending this conversation.

SEXPLORATION: A THREE-SESSION CONVERSATION

Wednesdays- June 10th, 17th, and 24th 2015
7PM -9PM at Hooked on Colfax Coffee and Booze (Colfax at Steele)

Back by popular demand, and bigger and more intimate than before! In this three part conversation series, this closed group will explore the idea of “sexploration.” How might we explore sex and sexual expression in a way that promotes personal growth? Perhaps there are aspects of ourselves such as self-confidence, fears, or shyness that prevent us from enjoying our next level of sexual enjoyment.

As sexual beings, what might it mean to embrace our unique sexual identities and curiosities? Are there things you’ve always wanted to try but have never done? Together we’ll learn about “sexploration” and how it might be used to step more fully into who you are.

 The Details:

  • This will be a 3 part series- attendance to all three will be required.
  • Dates are Wednesdays, June 10th,17th, and 24th from 7PM-9 PM at Hooked on Colfax
  • This is a closed conversation, meaning confidentiality and trust will be built by not having new participants each week. It will be the same facilitators and participants each week.

This conversation series will be facilitated by Shannon Sprung, MA, LPC  and Anna Gibson, Doctoral Trainee. This will be a closed group, meaning attendance will be required at all three meetings.  RSVP to this conversation HERE

Sexploration Part 2: Sexpression

As a part two to last month’s conversation series, this month we will look at the idea of “Sexpression.” What is sexual expression? How do you know when you are exercising your sexual expression in a way that is fulfilling or freeing for you? Much like how we express ourselves with more than just our voices, sexual expression is composed of much more than simply the act of having sex. What aspects of sexual expression have you never thought of and might want to consider? What is a form of sexual expression that has made you move forward in your growth as a sexual being? Together we’ll learn about “sexpression” and what it might mean for your path of sexploration.

Having the Other Sex Conversation:
The meaning of Getting It On

We may talk about STDs and condoms, but what about the other sex conversation?  Do we talk about what sex means to us? What is the kind of meaning you give to sex?  What is it going to mean to you to have sex?  Does sex create expectation?

Can we get on the same page sexually?

Negative Self: Part Two

  • Hooked on Colfax

In what ways do you measure your sense of self? What tools are you using to measure your self-worth? How do you know if you're "good enough?"

Join us this month as we continue the discussion of releasing the inner-critic and embracing a deeper sense of love and acceptance of yourself. We continue the discussion with the opportunity to move beyond your own self-judgement and hold a deeper sense of compassion for yourself.

We will explore why this might be important to you, and how your life would be different if you were able to release judgement of yourself and begin to love yourself even a little bit more. We will explore ways to shift your focus on to what is working in your life rather than the negative thoughts and beliefs about yourself.

Although this a continuation of the topic from last month, please join us if you weren't there. Marc Coulter LPC, CAC III, NCC, EMDR, is a Psychotherapist in Denver and will lead the discussion on releasing the critical voice, and embracing a more loving heart toward yourself.

Letting Go Of Negative Self-Image- HeyDenver Conversation

Do you judge your life based upon other people's social media posts about their "glamorous" life?

Does the "play by play" announcer in your head only focus on the negative commentary?

Are you ready to begin to release some of the old patterns and start something new?

The comments sections of your favorite celebrity news blog may be full of cynicism and judgement, but they ain't got nothing on you when it comes to judging yourself. No one is as vicious as you are to yourself as you pick apart what's wrong in your life.

Join us as we provide a fun, safe place to generate solutions for releasing judgement and embracing compassion for yourself and others. We'll be learning ways on how to take steps toward self-acceptance and release insecurities. We'll also talk about ways to focus on what's working instead of what's not working in your life.

Marc Coulter, LPC, CAC III, NCC, a local Psychotherapist, will be leading the discussion on letting go of negative self-image. He'll help you learn to fire your inner critic and hire the inner coach.

HeyDenver Conversation: Monogamous, Monogamish, and Open Relationships

  • Hooked on Colfax

You are invited to join us for a lively conversation about monogamous, monogamish*, open relationships, and everything in between.

We will be discussing Dr. Christopher Ryan's evidence that 'monogamish' relationships are natural to humans than our current attitudes.

For this discussion we will consider the following:

-A 2013 Gallup found that 91 percent of Americans disapprove of marital infidelity.

-In this survey, 94% of respondents would rather never marry than end up with a person they knew would cheat and 82% of them have “zero tolerance” for infidelity. Yet 81% of people admitted they’d cheat if they knew there wouldn’t be any consequences and 42% of the survey takers, in equal parts men and women, admitted to already having cheated.
